Community is an essential part of life as well as the educational profession. Without a vast professional learning network we do not have the benefit of expanding our thinking and learning from others that are not in our immediate circles. Social media has really opened doors for us to professionally connect with others all over the world (Forbes, 2017).

This year I switched from teaching Kindergarten to starting my journey as a dyslexia therapist. So I feel like I have a foot in both worlds.

I am a member of several Science of Reading groups on Facebook as well as technology groups. These Facebook learning communities are excellent places to go for different perspectives on things from the those that are in the same day to day with you.

Groups I am a Member of:

This group is excellent for collaborating and seeing how other teachers are using Seesaw. You can put a question in the group and have several responses very quickly. It is a great place to collaborate and come up with new ideas as well.

Reading Horizons is a program that we use in dyslexia therapy for friends that need a more modified approach. It is a new program from me from what I have been trained on. I am excited to become a part of this group and learn how other teachers are using the program.

This group is by Amplify Education so it has a lot of great information on the Science of Reading and the technology that supports it. I like to see the resources that are provided and the teachers comments along with it.

What groups have you found supportive of your teacher journey?
