Usability Testing Reflection
Feedback, Reflection, & Changes
I had an excellent user testing experience. I had a co-worker from my dyslexia training group agree to record a usability testing session on my hybrid course. She was provided with a task list to guide the testing. She did a great job thinking out loud and providing both positive feedback and a few things to change as well. Changes made based on her feedback:
-
Student Homework Calendar: added shading to differentiate months, added emojis to assignment description to draw attention to printed calendar in folder
-
This change allows for students and parents to know they do not have to do anything with this homework calendar and that it is just there for reference. It also draws more attention to the physical folder that will go home each day.
-
-
Reordered materials in "Start Here" section
-
The new order of this section makes more sense and helps to lighten cognitive load.
-
-
Clarified login info on Learning Ally and Typing Club
-
Students have been using their district portal for several years now, but this gives them additional help should they need it at home or are new to the district.
-
-
Clarified ABC Arc directions
-
Tester indicated that emojis help draw attention and add visual support in another section, so I added these to this section since she missed the directions here.
-
-
Added login with Google to Knowt Decks
-
This was probably the biggest usability issue that I saw. It did not come up for me because I was already logged in when testing. It served as a reminder to test things in an incognito window. Also showed me the importance of having someone test on their own device.
